The records contain correspondence, board minutes, financial and administrative records, applications and supporting documentation for federal contracts to aid minority businesses, reports, newsclips, project files, community surveys, planning studies, statistical information, and printed materials pertaining to the Association's work in housing and community development. The collection includes documentation on the revitalization of the North Fifth Street "El Bloque de Oro" (Golden Block) Hispanic commercial district and the American Street industrial corridor in North Philadelphia.

The Spanish Merchants Company was established by the Spanish Merchants Association of Philadelphia to distribute milk to Spanish-speaking grocers. It was the first minority milk cooperative to act as a subdealer with its own license not subject to price controls of the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board.
